Course Description

This  three-day training program will develop public safety instructors who will undergo a series of dynamic, interactive modules and be able to return to their respective agencies to incorporate a new philosophy of resilience within their department’s culture.

This training utilizes twelve modules, specifically designed upon a concept of domains and tenets. The four specific domains are the areas in a person’s life encompassing how they experience and relate to others and themselves. Learning how to remain “fit” across all four domains (Mental, Physical, Social and Spiritual) will lead to a more resilient and healthy individual, benefitting the officer’s career and personal life.

What you will learn:

  • Resilience ~ the ability to withstand, recover, and/or grow in the face of stressors and changing demands.
  • Mental ~ the ability to effectively cope with unique mental stressors and challenges.
  • Physical ~ the ability to adopt and sustain healthy behaviors needed to enhance health and well-being.
  • Social ~ the ability to engage in healthy social networks that promote overall well-being and optimal performance.
  • Spiritual ~ the ability to strengthen a set of beliefs, principles, or values that sustain an individual’s sense of well-being and purpose.

The tenets are the key characteristics in an individual that foster resilience.

  • Lesson #1 – Overview of Resilience and the Resilience Toolkit
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of resilience and to respond to the concept of resilience.
  • Lesson #2 – Counting Blessings
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of Counting blessings and to respond to the concept of the skill.
  • Lesson #3 – Accomplishing Goals
    The objective of this lesson is to comprehend the concept of accomplishing goals and for each student to respond to the concept of the skill of accomplishing goals.
  • Lesson #4 – ABC (Activating event, Brain, Consequences)
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to respond to the concept of the ABC model and to introduce the audience to the ABC model and highlight the link between thoughts and subsequent emotions which cause our reactions.
  • Lesson #5 – Check your playbook
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of the skill of check your playbook and to respond to the concept of the skill of Check your playbook.
  • Lesson #6 – Balance Your Thinking and Instant Balance your Thinking
    The objective of this lesson is to comprehend the concept of Balance your thinking and instant balance your thinking and for each student to respond to the concept of the skills of balance your thinking and instant balance your thinking.
  • Lesson #7 – Capitalizing on Strengths
    The objective of this lesson is to introduce the audience to the Capitalizing on Strengths Skill and understand the value of recognizing and utilizing your strengths and the strengths of others.
  • Lesson #8 – Acceptance Strategies Mindfulness and Meaning Making
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of acceptance strategies and for each student to respond to   the concept of the skill of the acceptance strategies of mindfulness and meaning-making.
  • Lesson #9 – Spiritual Resilience
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of the spiritual resilience and to respond to the concept of Spiritual resilience.
  • Lesson #10 – Physical Resilience
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to respond to the concept of physical resilience and to comprehend the concept of physical resilience.
  • Lesson #11 – Interpersonal Problem Solving
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of interpersonal problem solving and to respond to the concept of interpersonal problem solving.
  • Lesson #12 – Good Listening and Active Constructive Responding (ACR)
    The objective of this lesson is for each student to comprehend the concept of Good listening and ACR as well for each student to respond to the concept of Good listening and ACR.

Participants must attend all three days and times to receive course completion certificate.
